A stunning 1924-P Peace Dollar graded MS65 by PCGS. Original mint luster with a satiny finish. Eye appeal in hand is very pleasing. The reverse has some traces of spots. According to Q. David Bowers some gem coins have white milk spots which may be caused by the US Mint soaking the dies in a dilute sulphuric acid.
Excerpt from an article in Coin World entitled The intriguing history of the Peace Dollar
By Steve Roach
“The Peace dollar is often overshadowed by the Morgan dollar. The roughly 187 million Peace dollars struck between 1921 and 1935 was a fraction of the half billion Morgan dollars struck in their time, between 1878 and 1904 and again in 1921. Collectors are often content to have a single example of the high relief 1921 Peace dollar and the modified, lower relief 1922 to 1935 issues for type purposes in their collections, favoring to collect instead the romantic Morgan dollar that brings to mind the Old West.
Yet, smart hobbyists have continued to look to the Peace dollar as a value-filled series that deserves a second look, in that it gives collectors a more accessible collecting challenge than with Morgan dollars. Unlike with Morgan dollars, the Peace dollar series doesn’t have any tough rarities in circulated grades, and the limited production of just 10 years (no Peace dollars were struck between 1929 and 1933) means that the total number of coins in a complete set is a reasonable 24.”
